Nocturnes
2021
The Nocturnes paintings emerged from a sustained interest in twilight—the moment when form dissolves and the landscape settles into shadow and tone. These works treat painting as a quiet composition of mood, light, and stillness.
The word nocturne comes from music, and I think of these works as visual compositions of tone and mood. They are quiet, contemplative paintings that capture the transition between light and darkness—when color recedes, space flattens, and the world becomes still.
Many of these exhibitions grow out of ongoing themes and studio projects explored elsewhere on the site.
Works shown in past exhibitions may be in private collections; current works are noted as available and may be viewed on the Paintings pages or by inquiry.
