Nocturnes

2021

The Nocturnes paintings grew from my fascination with twilight—the moment when daylight fades and the landscape becomes reduced to shadow and silhouette. Trees, hills, and horizon lines dissolve into simplified shapes, their forms unified by the soft grays of evening light.

The word Nocturne comes from music, and I think of these paintings as visual compositions of tone and mood. They are quiet, contemplative works that capture the transition between light and darkness—the time when color recedes, space flattens, and the world becomes still.
