Makers

Makers is an online journal that presents one artist at a time. Each issue is a portrait of a maker’s life and practice, paired with images of their work.

The journal grew out of two books I wrote, A Quiet Success and Utility and Presence, and some of the makers profiled here will be familiar from those pages. But Makers also looks beyond them, to contemporary artists working today around the world—new names alongside familiar ones.

There is no single style running through these profiles, but there is a shared thread. The people featured here have built quiet, disciplined lives around their work, choosing craft over trend and steadiness over spectacle.
