Compositions are paintings of vessels—bowls, cups, vases—and natural objects. The still lifes are quiet studies in gray, where everyday objects sit together within a narrow range of tone and find harmony through understatement. The abstractions take those same objects further, translating them into sign, into line, into field, until only their structure and relationships remain. Both begin with looking closely at what is usually passed over, and both look for the calm order inside simple things.
