This painting continues my exploration of songbirds and their instinctive rhythms—their quiet grace, their moments of stillness and motion, and the gentle harmony within their interactions. I am drawn to the subtle gestures and fleeting relationships that echo the balance of the natural world, where rhythm, texture, and light coexist in quiet accord.
In this composition, a pair of red birds, close and intertwined, are rendered through extended, gestural marks in oil paint. Their forms, close to one another, reflect the symbolic yin and yang, but these bird forms are not opposites—they are a pair shown in union.
Through a process of layering, scraping, and abrasion, I work to reveal surfaces that feel both weathered and alive. What remains is an image less descriptive than remembered—an evocation of time, movement, and presence. The painting is presented in a handcrafted walnut frame with a gold leaf face by Guido Frames, whose craftsmanship complements the warmth and luminosity of the work.
