This book documents the architectural and landscape legacy of Shelburne Farms, a late nineteenth-century agricultural estate on the shores of Lake Champlain.
Combining archival research with new photography, I trace the vision of its founders, Eliza “Lila” Vanderbilt and William Seward Webb, and the ongoing stewardship of the property. From Frederick Law Olmsted’s pastoral planning to the Italianate gardens and monumental barns, the book reflects a sustained balance between vision, preservation, and place.
