Published in 2001, this volume established the first full catalogue raisonné of Sanyu’s oil paintings and remains a foundational reference for collectors, curators, and scholars. Sanyu (Chang Yu, 1895–1966) developed a distinctly modern language of form—reduced, lyrical, and culturally hybrid—shaped by his long life in Paris and his ongoing conversation with both Chinese tradition and European modernism.

The design is built for long-term use: consistent documentation, measured pacing, and restrained typography that supports close viewing across a large body of paintings. Later publications—including subsequent volumes and expanded editions—continue the scholarly record first consolidated here.
