This painting marks the beginning of a new group of works featuring cows—part of a continuing exploration of animals as symbolic and expressive forms. In these four related paintings, I pursue a more direct and intuitive approach to image-making, embracing simplicity and spontaneity over precision.
The compositions are intentionally primitive, almost childlike in their rendering, evoking both innocence and authority. I combine several methods—drawing with oil stick, monotype printing from cutout shapes, and traditional brushwork—to achieve layered surfaces that balance immediacy with depth. These overlapping processes allow unexpected forms and textures to emerge, keeping the act of painting fluid and experimental.
This series serves as a bridge between my recent bird paintings and the Nordic-influenced animal imagery that continues to shape my visual language—works rooted in memory, instinct, and the search for essential form.
