This painting continues my exploration of songbirds and their instinctive rhythms—their quiet grace, their moments of stillness and motion, and the gentle harmony within their interactions. I am drawn to the subtle gestures and fleeting relationships that echo the balance of the natural world, where rhythm, texture, and light coexist in quiet accord.
In this composition, a pair of blue-gray birds, close and intertwined, are rendered through extended, gestural marks of oil pastel and paint. Their forms shimmer within a softly modulated field of gray and blue tones. The suggestion of a third bird, faintly emerging in the lower left, adds a quiet asymmetry that deepens the spatial and emotional resonance of the piece.
Through a process of layering, scraping, and abrasion, I work to reveal surfaces that feel both weathered and alive. What remains is an image less descriptive than remembered—an evocation of time, movement, and presence. The painting is presented in a handcrafted walnut frame with a gold leaf face by Guido Frames, whose craftsmanship complements the warmth and luminosity of the work.
