The imagery in this painting is inspired by the landscape surrounding my home in Woodstock, Vermont, though it is not intended as a literal view. Rather, it reflects my impressions of the terrain and light just beyond my studio—moments gathered from daily walks through the hills and open meadows that surround this place.

I am continually drawn to the quiet atmosphere of changing weather—the muted tones of overcast days, the calm that precedes or follows rain, and the narrow band of brightness that often appears where sky meets land. These transitions between light and shadow reveal a subtle kind of drama that invites contemplation rather than description.

Painted in oil on linen board, the work emphasizes the physical dialogue between material and image. I rub and scrape the paint to expose the linen’s weave, allowing the surface to participate in the composition. This tactile process gives the painting a quiet dimensionality—an echo of the landscape’s own textures and shifting depths.
