Embracing the Challenge of Scale

This recently completed work was painted on a canvas I stretched with fine Belgian linen—a natural material and one of my favorite surfaces to paint on. A collector asked if I could take a very small landscape she loved and paint it at large scale. I accepted, not as a commission, but as a chance to take an idea and expand it many times over.

It worked. The result isn’t an exact replica—the larger surface and the methods it demanded gave the image a life of its own. It carries the spirit of the original, but stands as something distinct: a stronger, more atmospheric expression, made possible only by painting at this scale.
