The imagery in this painting is inspired by where I live and work in Woodstock, Vermont, however it is not a literal representation. In this ongoing series of work, the paintings are manifestations of visual experiences outside my studio doors, views from hiking trails on our hills, and sights along walks through our highland meadows. I am interested in weather effects and the moodiness of overcast gray days, the moments before or after a rainstorm, and the beautiful bright light that often appears on the horizon between land and sky.

Surface and texture are an integral part of the painting. Painted in oil on linen panels that have a hard, resistant surface, I work with the texture of the weave, often rubbing or scraping the surface and leaving visible parts of the architecture of the canvas.
