The self-published book focuses on the artist’s creative process and the development of his still life paintings, illustrating selections from the last twenty-five years that include early realistic renderings, monochromatic compositions, quick painterly suggestions, and recent bold abstract expressions. An essay provides insight into Suokko’s interest in the history of still life painting and the artists whose work inspired him while teaching himself to paint.

In his recent work, Suokko’s inventiveness combines his interest in two-dimensional design with theorized, artful expression, where the boundaries between tradition and abstraction are freely pushed as a way of rethinking what generally accepted requirements make a still life painting.
