Glenn Suokko: Landscape

This new self-published book focuses on Glenn Suokko’s creative process and the development of his recent landscape paintings, inspired by the place where he lives and works in rural Woodstock, Vermont.

“In my paintings of Barberry Hill, I do not try to document the details of real scenes. I am interested in the equation between land and sky and most specifically the objects that bridge these dominant spaces: trees.”

In his essay, “Painting a Universal Essence,” Suokko describes the importance of the subject and inspiration where he works as remarkably strong an emotional setting as it is naturally beautiful in all its splendor and ever-shifting seasonal beauty. In the context of art history, he presents the work of the artists whose landscape work he admires as well as his own changing approaches to painting landscapes from observation to representation to imaginative interpretation.
