This special bilingual edition of Sanyu: Prints by Rita Wong includes two books: “The Texts” contains an introduction to the art of Sanyu, as well as a critical essay that places Sanyu’s prints in context of twentieth-century printmaking; “The Prints” presents 42 known drypoints, etchings, linocuts, and lithographs, beautifully reproduced on Rives BFK one hundred percent cotton paper—Sanyu’s paper of choice for many of his prints—made in France for this special limited edition of one hundred copies. This beautifully crafted publication is designed after a book reminiscent of Les poèmes de T’ao Ts’ien, published in Paris in 1930, which included three etchings by Sanyu. “The Prints” is wrapped in a special translucent jacket. Both books are presented in a distinctive red linen cloth box, creating an exquisitely produced volume to honor Sanyu, who is regarded as one of the masters of modern Chinese art.
